LESSONS FROM THE U.S PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

I don't know how many of you share my sentiments but I am not even an American yet I sat up all night to watch all the news and updates on CNN about the now concluded  U.S Presidential Elections. It is no longer news that President Barrack Obama won the elections and is in for another four years as President of the United States. Truth is that at some point, I felt he may not win because of the impact Mitt Romney made on the upper class and all the negative campaigning from both parties and how close the numbers were. Once again, the elections proved that anything is possible!!!

I hope and pray that  the leaders and politicians of my dear country Nigeria and indeed the whole of Africa would learn from the U.S Elections that you don't have to assasinate your opponents, send thugs to the polling centers and threaten people for votes to win elections into an office. Let your words and actions and show of patriotism win over the people's confidence in you and you have their votes.

I also pray that the leaders and politicians in Nigeria and all of Africa take lessons on "Losing with grace" as Mitt Romney did, rather than go ahead and institute un-necessary legal actions against the winners of the elections.

Politics is about service to your country and people and not a do-or-die affair. Remember, it is no longer business as usual, the electorates are getting more informed, wiser and smarter by the day.

Congratulations to President Barrack Obama and all U.S citizens and residents on a successful election.
